Directions For Writing A Research Paper On Consumer Behavior
Consumer behavior has long been of great interests to economists and those studying certain areas of business. It’s what drives the marketplace. Because of this great interest, the topic has been and will continue to be a popular choice for research paper topics.
Narrowing down your topic is the first step you take before actually writing your research paper. Consumer behavior is all about the characteristics of individual consumers; there is also an element of group behavior that can be factored in as well. Some of the characteristics you can explore are psychographics, demographics, age, gender, race income, home ownership, mobility, values, attitudes, loyalty, location, status and more.
Identifying your audience
When writing on your chosen topic, don’t just think of what you want to write, think of who the audience may be. Is it just your instructor or are you trying to reach a particular academic crowd? This will help to determine the direction you take. You can ask yourself, what questions would my audience have? What can I answer for them? Will they be satisfied with the date I’ve provided?
Developing an outline
Choose some main headings or ideas that emerged as you did the reading. Then organize all the minor ideas in groups with the main ideas. These become the main headings and the subheadings in your outline. After you have them all organized, look them over and make sure each subheading is a relevant point of the main heading. You’re ready to start writing now.
Writing your paper
Your outline will help you write better and faster. It’s like a builder using a blueprint to build a house. Without a blueprint it’s difficult to know which part to put on next to have a successful finished house. It’s the same with writing a paper. Now you do have an outline, so use it!
Start with the first section of your outline. The main heading is the main idea to use in the paragraph you’re writing, and the subheadings are all the little points that support it. Tell how they are related and explain the significance. Include examples, data, and verification. The last sentence of the paragraph should be a transition sentence which gives the reader an idea of what you will cover in the next paragraph.
Proofread your paper
Skilled editors say it’s more efficient to proof from a printed paper rather than from a computer screen. It gives you a fresh perspective and you can write your edits on the paper, but do whatever works best for you.
